The first step towards understanding your listener journey and growing your show is using Flywheel to collect data about how people discover and follow your podcast.

Here are three actions you can take today to start gathering this data.

Embed the Web Player on your Website

You are likely already using a web player on your website, either one provided by your host or a third party web player. The problem with these is that they give you no information about how listeners interact with your podcast; how many listeners discovery your show through your website, how long they listen and how many of them convert into followers. Flywheel gives you all this data plus granular info on where your listener comes from, where in the world they are, what devices they are using and much more.

To get started simply:

  1. Copy the Web player embed code from the Flywheel app on your Player dashboard
  2. Paste it into the CMS that manages your website (this will be Sqaure Space, Wordpress or any other CMS)

That's it! You now have a powerful listener discovery measurement tool embedded on your website. Here's what it looks like embeded:

Share a Podcard

Every time your share your podcast it's an opportunity to discover more about your potential audience:

  1. What social platforms are they most active on?
  2. Which episodes pique their interest the most?
  3. What ratio of first-time listeners become followers?

Podcards are an opportunity to share your podcast in a way that gives your visitors an excellent first listening experience while gathering important information you need to know in order to maximize your sharing and promotion activities.

Next time you share your podcast on a social media platform (or anywhere else!) use your Podcard and let Flywheel tell you how effectively you are reaching your audience. Just grab your Podcard link from the Podcard section of the Flywheel app and share! Check out this example.

Use Your Followall

I bet you already have a section of your website with a bunch of podcast app badges that link to your show on the various players. Thats great, but you don't know when people are clicking them! You need this data to understand how effectively your website is converting visitors into followers. You Followall does just that; it presents your visitors with a range of apps they can use to follow your show in a consistent way and most importantly tells you exactly when people decide to follow using any of those links.

To get started:

  1. Visit the Followall section of the Flywheel app and copy the Followall code
  2. Paste it anywhere on your website where you want to highlight follow options to your visitors

Here's what the Followall looks like in action:

Done! You will know now exactly how effective your website is in converting visitors into followers.
